Daily 5

"The Daily 5 is more than a management system or a curriculum framework, it is a structure that helps students develop the daily habits of reading, writing, and working independently that will lead to a lifetime of literacy independence." (The Daily 5 Fostering Literacy Independence in the Elementary Grades, Gail Boushey and Joan Moser "The Sisters")

Our staff have been, or are in the process of, completing Daily 5 Training.

Read to Self

Children reading to themselves is the first step in the Daily 5 and is the foundation for creating independent readers and writers.

Read to Someone

Reading with someone helps readers, especially developing readers, become more self-sufficient and less reliant on the teacher for assistance.

Word Work

During Word Work we focus on spelling and vocabulary work with children.

The writing component of the Daily 5 provides the additional support children require to become effective writers.

Listen to Reading

Listening to reading is valuable for developing fluency and vocabulary.
